Een jaar na zijn zelfgetitelde album "Gavin Degraw" brengt Gavin Degraw een nieuwe collectie van tracks uit op zijn cd "Free". "Free" is een collectie van rauwe organische songs die doen denken aan de live versie van zijn eerder uitgebrachte cd "Chariot".
"My intention on FREE was to stay out of the way of the songs," DeGraw says. "We kept the production very minimal in order to get everything that lies between me and the audience out of the way. By removing all the bells and whistles, you really make room for someone to pay attention to the songwriting."
Het resultaat is een album zonder opsmuk, met sterke teksten en een soulvol stemgeluid. De 10 songs tellende cd werd naast de vocalen van Gavin Degraw ingespeeld door gitarist Audley Freed (Black Crowes), bassist Andy Hess (Gov't Mule), drummer Charley Drayton (Keith Richards' X-Pensive Winos), en keyboardspeler George Laks (Lenny Kravitz).
